Susanthika Jayasinghe – Sri Lanka’s Sprint Queen

Vernon Corea enjoyed watching – on television – the exploits of Sri Lanka’s Sprint Queen, the amazing Susanthika Jayasinghe who brought glory in track and field – even in the Olympics. Susanthika has also been interviewed on the airwaves of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. Vernon’s son Ivan awarded Susanthika with the Sri Lanka Today Sports Personality Personality of the Year Trophy after her IAAF medal. The trophy was flown from London to Colombo on SriLankan Airlines and presented to Susanthika by the Minister of Sports of the Government of Sri Lanka at a huge Sports Dinner in 1997.

Susanthika won the silver medal in the IAAF world championships in 1997 in the 200 metres final in Athens, Greece.

Susanthika won the bronze medal in thee 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
