The epic film Ben-Hur released by Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer in the United States of America, was screened in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) in the 1960s. Radio Ceylon has also mentioned the film in the 1960s. Vernon Corea loved the film and took his family to see Charlton Heston in action. Vernon also had the book written by Lew Wallace on his bookshelf at 5A Maha Nuge Gardens in Colombo in the 1960s.

Charlton Heston won an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in Ben Hur.
