Over the years Vernon Corea has frequented the handful of Sri Lankan restaurants in London in the United Kingdom. At one time there was a restaurant in what was the Ceylon Tea Centre in Regent Street London. Sadly the Centre was closed down.
A restaurant that was opened recently is the ‘Taprobar’ Restaurant near the BT Tower in London – the restaurant is receiving rave reviews online at the moment. The restaurant does not offer Sri Lankan cuisine but offers Italian food with a new twist – Ceylon Tea supplied by the Mackwoods Group from Sri Lanka. Vernon would certainly loved this restaurant if he was around. Mackwoods Tea Estates have supplied a whole range of teas from Sri Lanka, including tea from the Labookellie Tea Estate in Kandy visited by His Royal Highness Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales during his official tour of Sri Lanka for CHOGM 2013 – the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

A Sri Lankan restaurant that Vernon Corea has visited with his family and BBC colleagues is the Sekara Restaurant in London and Vernon did enjoy the egg hoppers and hoppers on the menu in the 1990s.
