Lights Go Out at 10 pm and replace them with a single candle to remember all those who died in the Great War

First World War Centenary
100 years ago today on Monday 4th August 1914 Sir Edward Grey the British Foreign Secretary signed the declaration of war and said: “The lamps are going out all over Europe; we shall not see them lit again in our life.”

Today at 10 pm UK time the lights will go out and replaced by a single candle to remember all British and Commonwealth soldiers who perished in the Great War – they included soldiers from Ceylon.

The sacrifice of a generation is remembered today.
