Sri Lankan broadcaster, the late Vernon Corea used to love to listen to the cricket commentaries by former Australian captain Richie Benaud first over the airwaves of the BBC World Service when he was living in Sri Lanka and then on BBC TV in the UK. Richie Beanud played in 63 tests before retiring in 1964. He spent over 50 years as a cricket commentator and people around the world tuned into his commentaries.

Richie Benaud has visited Sri Lanka on several occasions. He was a man of a few words and pauses – that simple approach endeared him to cricket fans all over the world. He will be missed by the world of cricket.
