Famous American Chef Julia Child lived and worked in Ceylon during World War II.
TIME Magazine dubbed her as ‘The Lady with the ladle’ in a TIME cover story in 1966. She achieved the heights of fame and fortune in the United States of America and all around the world as a chef, author and television personality. Julia Child in fact lived and worked in Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, during world War II. She worked with the Office of Strategic Services, known as the OSS in 1944 and was sent to Kandy in Sri Lanka. She also met her husband Paul Child, an OSS Employee, while working in Kandy, Ceylon.
Julia Child changed the way Americans ate. She was one of the greatest cooking celebrities of the 1960s. She was a pioneer for women.
Julia Child was involved in intelligence in Ceylon during World War II. According to Wikipedia: ‘In 1944 she was posted to Kandy, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), where her responsibilities included “registering, cataloging and channeling a great volume of highly classified communications” for the OSS’s clandestine stations in Asia…’
